Crab drawing weekend

Read Now

On Saturday the 26th of September, Húnaklúbburinn members gathered for a crab drawing class.

First, we retrieved some crab traps from the peer. They had been left in the water overnight with bait, and were full, with twelve invasive Atlantic rock crabs and a confused sculpin inside!

The day was successful, with some beautiful drawings. Since the crabs were invasive and should not be released in the wild, we cooked them with some thyme and salt and had them for dinner.
Although they are delicious, Atlantic rock crabs could be a big problem in Iceland as they are competing with endemic crabs for food. First observed in Hvalfjörður in 2006, this species has quickly spread all around Iceland.
